Vishal: You are judged by your previous Friday; Laththi actor on audience expectations and injuries – EXCLUSIVE
Having the status of action heroes with films like Veeramae Vaagai Soodum, Enemy and more, Tamil actor Vishal is set for his next film, Laththi, which releases on December 22. Known for being the unexpected knight in shining armor on the big screen, Vishal has left no stone unturned this time to get into the skin of the character of a police constable in Laththi.
“I have given two films’ involvement, injuries, energy and everything in one film. It took 143 days to complete the film, so I am looking forward to the box office results because even after 5 years, if I get to see the film on TV, I want to be proud of it.Normally no one plays the role of a constable but likes to play the role of a higher official and it’s new to show the life of a constable. It’s the opposite of body language that I never have tried. I have always given orders, this is the first time I am taking orders. It is a film dedicated to every constable in the country,” said Vishal in an exclusive chat with Pinkvilla.
“109 Stitches and Run…”
He dares to take on a wide range of roles and makes sure to fully immerse himself in the character while shooting for the film. Due to this, Vishal sustained major injuries and a hairline fracture while shooting for a stunt sequence. He was hospitalized in Kerala for 3 weeks thereafter.
“I jumped from the 4th floor and was hospitalized in Kerala for 3 weeks after that. The last 45 minutes of the film takes place in a single location in an unfinished building. There is a particular scene where I had to jump from one floor to the other one. , and when I had to do this, my hands got torn nails and it became a common thing. The makeup guys didn’t know which was original blood and which was fake when they had to clean. After at one point I became immune I love doing my stunts on my own without body doubles, 109 stitches and running,” says Vishal.
Laththi Trailer
After lockdown, you have to surprise the audience and give something new on a plate, otherwise they have a choice to watch things on OTT
Actor Vishal
Laththi is directed by debutant Vinoth Kumar. The actor says the draw factor was its script and that Vinod had the support of the entire team.
Asked how challenging or easy it will be when working with a debutant director, Vishal said, “There are two ways of doing it, one is that you judge him by listening to the script. The script is good , but sometimes they change in performance. Vinod, when he came to me and narrated the script, I heard the script and was blown away by the script. Playing a constable and a father to a 7-year-old child was something new, so I felt, that it would surprise the audience. After lockdown, you have to surprise the audience and give something new on a plate, otherwise they have a choice to watch things on OTT. Only content rich films bring audience to theatres. His (director’s) vision was magically converted on screen, so I’m really excited to see the final product.”
I called the director and said that I am unable to speak a single dialogue
After Laththi, Vishal started shooting to his next Mark Antony where he plays gangster. The action hero believes he should have taken a break after Laththi as the transition from playing a cop to a gangster became difficult.
“After Laththi I should have taken a break but I started shooting for Mark Anthony and I was completely clueless on the set. I called the director and said I am unable to speak a single dialogue as I haven’t yet accepted that I’m playing. a gangster role and no longer a cop. It’s actually very draining and also in a way a good chance to play different roles but you have to keep a gap between two characters. It took a year to complete Laththi, so I should have taken a break for a couple of weeks, but I couldn’t,” says the actor.
While an actor always has to live up to the audience’s expectations, Vishal says he doesn’t get carried away by success and gets hung up by failures.
Mark Anthony will be another landmark film in my career
“You’re judged by your previous Friday, so you have to be on your toes. It’s like you can’t sit back from your success and at the same time succumb to failure and be in one place. Go hunting and keep on keep on delivering till you win. Mark Anthony will be another landmark film in my career, I hope,” he signs off expressing his excitement about the film’s Hindi release.
