New Apple TV 4K owners report issues with Siri Remote

A growing number of third-generation Apple TV 4K owners are reporting connectivity issues with the Siri Remote, which are only temporarily resolved by either restart the remote control or turn the set-top box on and off.

More MacRumors forum and Save your threads has been created to highlight the issue, which appears to relate to the Siri Remote’s inconsistent Bluetooth connection with the latest Apple TV 4K, even in close proximity.

Users report that the Siri Remote periodically loses connection to the Apple TV 4K, which can only be remedied by either pairing or restarting the remote, or by disconnecting the set-top box and then reconnecting it to re-establish the connection.

Notably, the issue does not occur when the same users try to control their Apple TV 4K with the Remote app on their iPhone or with their TV remote via HDMI-CEC, suggesting that the error is actually a Bluetooth issue between the remote and Apple TV 4K.

Whether the problem is due to a software bug or hardware-related is still unknown, although there are indications that the problem only started for some users after updating to tvOS 16.2, which may be why it has only now become a more widespread issue.

Some users have gone through several Apple TV 4K replacement devices from Apple to try to fix the connection issues with mixed results. Apple is clearly aware of the issue, but has yet to respond publicly.

The third-generation Apple TV 4K was released in October 2022, with an A15 Bionic processor, 64 GB or 128 GB of storage, HDR10+ support. It comes with a USB-C Siri Remote.
