Chloë Grace Moretz Makes For A Great Supergirl In Gorgeous DCU Art

A gorgeous new piece of fan art makes the case for The Peripheral star, Chloë Grace Moretz, to become Supergirl in James Gunn’s new DCU.

The Peripheral star Chloë Grace Moretz is a new Supergirl for James Gunn’s DC Universe thanks to fan art. Gunn has recently been appointed the new co-CEO of DC Studios, alongside producer Peter Safran. The studio heads are currently planning the next 8-10 years of DC movies and TV shows. One of the movies set to release this year, The Flashwill introduce audiences to Sasha Calle’s version of Supergirl. As the movie, and character, were not supervised by the new DC team, though, the possibility of Calle continuing on in the role is unclear at this time.

Digital artist horrific.heroics shared on Instagram what Moretz could look like as the DCU’s Kara Zor-El, AKA Supergirl.

Supergirl’s possible DCU casting is still a mystery to anyone that is not Gunn, Safran, or the higher-up Warner executives. Supergirl could very well be present in the DCU slate set to be revealed this month. In any case, the artist did their best job in preparing for a possible recast of the role for the new DCU, with Moretz in mind. The art pictures Moretz’s Supergirl with a sleek costume design, presenting what appears to be a modernized take on her classic suit.

Why Chloë Grace Moretz Would Be A Great Supergirl

Chloe Grace Moretz as Flynne in Peripheral

Moretz is an actress who is not afraid to get her hands dirty. Starting at an early age with superhero movies in the Kick-Ass duologyMoretz sure knows how to deliver riveting action sequences based on extravagant comic book stories. Moretz’s acting ability has only developed further since her excellent performance as vigilante Hit-Girl in the Kick-Ass movie franchise, with her latest lead role in Prime Video’s sci-fi series The Peripheral showing her full range as an artist.

Moretz plays Flynne Fisher on the show, a character with several similar traits to Kara Danvers AKA Supergirl. DC fans unfamiliar with Moretz can see that she shares a physical resemblance to Kara from the comics, but the actress’ portrayal of Fisher is what cements that she should be on the running for the role in Gunn’s planned DCU reboot. Fisher shares Kara’s compassionate, fierce and sometimes brash personality to perfection. Moretz’s The Peripheral character is also very physically capable, with the actress being a perfect choice to represent both Kara’s nuanced emotional side and Supergirl’s powerful exploits.

Could Supergirl Appear In James Gunn’s Superman Reboot?

Supergirl Woman of Tomorrow Scott Variant DC Comics

There are still no currently revealed plans for which characters and actors from the extinguished DCEU will be part of the new DCU. The only project confirmed to be happening so far is a Superman movie reboot. The film will star a younger actor in the role, as Clark Kent joins the Daily Planet as a reporter and learns his way around with the help of Lois Lane. Cavill’s Superman exit was revealed by Gunn shortly before the director explained the new direction the DCU’s Man of Tomorrow would be headed in, with Gunn penning the script. The reboot opens up an opportunity for a new actress to debut as Supergirl, given the character being Clark’s cousin. However, as this is a younger version of Superman, audiences shouldn’t expect the arrival of Supergirl in his story untilt the new Clark is settled into his role as Superman in the new DCU.
