The Bravo personality (nicknamed “The Stud of the Sea”) announced his exit on Monday’s episode, informing his crew that ongoing health issues meant he had to bow out of season 10 early.
Rosbach admittedly suffered from nervous problems when he boarded the motor yacht St. David at the start of the charter season, but he hoped his symptoms would subside with time. Instead, he shared in a confessional interview: “My injury, it’s getting worse. The left side of my body, I don’t feel anything:”
He continued, “I expected a lot more progress than I’m experiencing, and the most frustrating part about it is that I can’t do a god— thing about it, and it’s hard.”
Later he told chef Rachel Hargrove“This has probably been one of the most humbling experiences of my life.”
As Monday’s episode continued, Rosbach realized he had to consider that his health problems could have an impact on the whole boat. “The pain is getting worse, not better. I owe it to my crew to do right by them. They expect that from me,” he said.
“There comes a point, if a captain is truly objective, he should put the interests of his crew first because that is your primary responsibility,” he affirmed. “As soon as you step on board, check your f—ing ego at the dock. That’s where you leave it.”
At the end of the hour, he called an all-hands meeting and told his crew, “As you know, I’ve been struggling with my mobility, and it’s been tough. And I’ve let you down, and for that I apologize. So I have made a decision to leave the boat.”
It remains to be seen who will step into the wheelhouse, but an earlier scene showed Rosbach calling an unnamed co-captain as he prepared for the premature end of his yachting season. Next week’s episode will surely pick up again and show the fallout of Rosbach’s bombshell news.
under deck debuted with Rosbach at the helm in July 2013, with this latest season premiering on November 21. Season 10 features fan-favorite Rosbach, Hargove and chief stew Fraser Olender alongside a new crew in and around the Caribbean island of Saint Lucia.
Before Rosbach’s mobility issues led to his early departure, he enjoyed his time with some, ahem, spicy charter guests — one of whom asked him during an elegant dinner, “Do you want dessert, Captain?”
Showing his good humor, Rosbach puffed himself up and declared, “I think I’m hesitating!”
It’s not the first time Rosbach has had to take a step back to look after himself – season 9 also sailed under the guidance of captain Sean Meagher, while Rosbach missed part of the charter season due to injury.
“I have one condition. The whole boat is yours now.” he told his friend and first officer Eddie Lucas in the October 2019 premiere, prompting Lucas to later rant in a confessional: “Come back to me, Captain Lee. Come back to me, my boatman!”
After a few episodes, Rosbach could return to My old and trip St. Kitts with the yacht’s crew and charter guests.
